A total
‘desi’ dish that can be eaten at any nook and corner of India, Sev/Dahi puri is
a scrumptious starter, favorite of all irrespective of age.
Sev is a
popular variety of Indian snack food, made from small pieces of crunchy noodles
comprising chickpea flour paste which is seasoned with turmeric and cayenne
before being deep-fried in oil. These noodles vary in thickness. Sev is eaten
as a standalone snack as well as a topping on dishes like Bhelpuri and Sevpuri.
While
‘dahi’ is Hindi word for – Curd. Blended and textured with spices, this curd is
used to provide moisture and flavor to Indian snacks such as dahi puri, pani
puri etc.
Ingredients:
- Small salted puri’s – 20-25 pieces
- Beetroot, boiled and diced – 2
- Cucumber, diced – 2
- Onion, thinly sliced – 1
- Sev – as preferred
- Curd, blended – 1 ½ cup
- Tomato sauce – 1 small cup
- Green chili sauce – 1 small cup
- Red chili sauce- 1 small cup
- Salt- as per taste
- Garam Masala – 1 teaspoon
- Chaat masala- 1 ½ teaspoon
- Red mirchi powder – 1 teaspoon
Method:
o
Add
chaat masala, salt in blended curd and keep it in refrigerator.
o
Mix
diced/sliced onion, cucumber, beetroot with salt, red chilli powder and garam
masala.
o
Decorate
the puri’s in a deep base plate.
o
Put
small and equal quantity of mixture on puri’s.
o
Jazz
it up with curd.
o
Top
with tomato sauce, green chilli sauce/red chilli sauce as per taste
o
Garnish
it with sev and serve it fresh!!!
Quick tips:
v
Can
replce beetroot, onion and cucumber with any fruits or vegetables as per choice
v
Always
keep dahi/sev puri as simple as possible
v
Try
different toppings such as diced apples/pears/guava if using fruits as base
v
Can
put in carrots, tomatos, boiled potatoes/black chickpea or mung beans.
